Serenity of The Sarojin's white sand beach in Khao Lak, Thailand's idyllic coast.

With the Andaman Sea and an idyllic 11km stretch of secluded and sheltered white sand beach at our doorstep, it’s no surprise that our guests fall in love with the spectacular coastline around our resort. Whether it’s taking a leisurely stroll along the sands, soaking up the sun on our loungers, indulging with canapés and drinks by the sea, popping the big question with a romantic ocean backdrop or even getting married right here on The Sarojin beach – there are endless ways for you to experience this magical and tranquil setting.

Here we’ve rounded up some of our most popular coastal experiences to help you plan your next stay at The Sarojin…

Taking a Dip

The waters in Khao Lak boast an average temperature of 29°C even in winter, so you can take a dip in the ocean year-round. What’s more, during your stay you’ll have complimentary use of our sailing catamarans, sail boats, sea kayaks and windsurfing boards. If you prefer to try your hand at surfing, you can head to nearby Pakarang Coral Cape which is ideal for beginners with its gentle wave, or with a short boat ride to the Similan and Surin Islands you can discover some of Thailand’s most stunning snorkel and diving sites. Accessible from mid-October to early May, the islands are known for their underwater beauty, dramatic rocky gorges, hard and soft coral reefs and abundance of marine life.

Dine by the Ocean

Khao Lak resort The Sarojin coastlineBack at the resort, make the most of our ocean views by dining at our beachfront Edge restaurant which serves a delicious menu of Thai and Southeast Asian cuisine, including a selection of locally sourced seafood. Tables are set under an open-air timber pavilion or directly on the sand under the shade of the surrounding trees. For a light bite, our Beach Bar is the perfect spot to take in the sounds of the waves from the comfort of our snug sofas and sumptuous beanbags.

To learn more about our local cuisine, you can try our Thai Cooking Class Under The Wedding Tree ‘just for two’ excursion, which includes a visit to a local food market followed by a culinary masterclass on the beach. However, for the ultimate culinary experience by the sea our Private Dining options are not to be missed. Whether it’s a romantic candlelit beach dinner or a short trip aboard our Lady Sarojin yacht to dine below the stars on a private sand isle, you just need to pick the time and place and we’ll do the rest.

Beachside Nature Spotting

Our coastline is home to an array of local wildlife, from majestic birds such as the blue eared kingfisher and brahminy kite to vibrant tropical fish, manta rays and crustaceans such as hermit crabs that can be spotted from the beach. From mid-November to mid-December nesting turtles can also be seen along many of the beaches in Phang Nga – turtles have a special legal protection in Thailand and there are several local conservation programs in place which you can visit. To learn more about our local wildlife, you can speak with our team or book a complimentary garden tour during your stay which includes our beach.

Local Life Along the Shore

Fishing is one of the most important industries in Khao Lak and the deeper waters beyond the beaches and reefs provide a bounty of fresh seafood loved by locals and visitors alike. During a short window in the late green season, from October to early November, the seas are full of small shrimp that have a distinctive soft texture, sweet taste and pale pink colour. During this time The Sarojin beach comes alive with local fisherman looking to catch the delicious sea-treat, which is often used to make shrimp paste – a staple in many Thai dishes. Around 15 minutes’ drive north from The Sarojin, you can also visit the Baan Nam Khem fishing community located in a village at the mouth of Takuapa River. The village is a gateway to the bountiful seas beyond and home to a mangrove forest which offers refuge and nursing grounds for juvenile fish, crabs, shrimp and molluscs. Here you can volunteer alongside our team to help plant trees that will maintain the precious mangrove ecosystem which is so vital to the local community.

Preserving Our Coastline

You can help preserve our stunning 11km stretch of coastline in Khao Lak by joining our ongoing Beach Maintenance Project. Using one of our reusable bags which can be collected at the resort’s beach hut, you can collect any plastic or waste items you see along the shore and bring them back to us to recycle. The bags are decorated with painted illustrations from the children at our local Camillian Centre, a day care facility for disabled children. We run a regular excursion for our guests to join the children to paint the bags as part of our Sarojin Cares initiative, creating valuable interactions for those at the centre.
