Whether you know us for a little while or you are just discovering us now, there is something you will hear us say time and time again: “The Sarojin cares”. One of the reasons we chose Khao Lak for the location of our 56-room boutique residence was simply because we fell in love with the beautiful, undisturbed natural scenery, authentic Thai ambiance and local cultures… so it’s very important to us that we help preserve this very special part of the world. It’s nearly 20 years since The Sarojin opened in 2005, and we can confidently say that from day one a key priority has always been the local community and environment.

In October 2022, we were very proud to launch the new ‘One Booking One Tree’ initiative, and the commitment we made to plant a minimum of one tree for every booking made. We estimate by the end of 2022 we will have planted approximately 3,600 trees thanks to this new initiative together with other ongoing projects the resort supports on a monthly basis. For 2023, we forecast around 1,200 trees per month… a fantastic 14,400 per year!

The Sarojin one booking one treeWe organise at least one tree planting day every month and all our guests receive a complimentary invitation to participate. We have been supporting and contributing to the Mangrove Forest Planting Project in Baan Nam Kem (established by local fishermen following the tragedy of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami) since 2007 with monthly planting days organised by our staff, and which our guests also love to join. For years, we have seen the very beneficial impact that the project has had on the region, and so we wanted to make a further commitment and generate more awareness to this cause – hence the ’One Booking One Tree’ initiative was born. Mangrove trees are crucial for sustaining ecosystems and livelihoods.

We are working in partnership with local organisations, including the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, the Takuapa Local Government and the Ban Nam Khem and Bang Nai Si communities and we adjust our planting days to support their existing rehabilitation projects by planting either mangroves and/or sea almond trees. Both these trees are crucial in creating a richer environment for both animals and fishermen as well as acting as a natural barrier against storms and floods.

We have always been committed to community projects and support several ongoing initiatives, which we share with our guests whenever we can. In fact, we were delighted to be awarded Best Hotel at the Responsible Thailand Awards 2022, which took place at the World Travel Market exhibition in London recently (November 2022). The awards are run by Tourism Authority of Thailand and Wanderlust Magazine and celebrate Thailand-based organisations and resorts that are most deserving of recognition for their green initiatives and tireless efforts to promote sustainable tourism.

The prestigious accolade came only a few weeks after launching ‘One Booking One Tree’, with the new scheme being praised by the judging panel… something that we appreciate dearly and gives us an extra push to always continue to look for ways to further improve our green initiatives and protect our community.

Book a stay with us and join our cause… we promise you a conscious and responsible escape to remember!
