Today’s fast-paced world makes it easier than ever to neglect self-care from time to time. Here at The Sarojin, we are self-care advocates and we truly believe it isn’t just about finding ways to relax (although we are experts on the matter ☺). It’s about taking care of yourself mentally, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. Our goal is to help our guests truly unwind during their stay, which comes in many shapes and colours, and this is why over the years we have developed a curated range of products and experiences that radiate and encompass self-care and wellness throughout.
And so without further ado, here is a taste of the different antidotes to the stresses of everyday life we offer at The Sarojin…
For body, mind and soul…
Our award-winning Pathways Spa is a great place to start. Nestled within the resort grounds and surrounded by coconut groves, luscious greenery and the sounds of the soothing Andaman Sea, it is an ideal place for relaxation. Guests can indulge in 60 or 90 minutes massage sessions, which can be followed by a healthy Spa Cuisine Lunch including delicious detox smoothies. Our luxurious treatments are perfect for some quality ‘me time’ or ‘us time’ if accompanied by a loved one as our open-air pavilions can all accommodate couples together. We encourage you to read more about what Pathways Spa has to offer here as Spa Manager Khun Bee shares insider details and tips on popular treatments.
Yoga is an indisputable form of self-care, deeply rooted in history and practised by millions around the globe. Here at The Sarojin, our lovely teacher Justine is able to share the ancient form of self-care with our guests, whether you practice it regularly or you’re new to it. One of the added bonuses of practising yoga at The Sarojin is the setting, with most classes taking place in the luscious green gardens of the resort or beside our tranquil pool. Most of our sessions last 90-minutes following either Hatha or Vinyasa forms of practice and go hand in hand with mindful meditation techniques with cool-down time in the end for guests to take in their practice and relax away listening to the soothing sounds of nature.
For travellers looking to enrich the soul, a sunrise Spiritual Blessing of Love from a Thai Buddhist monk at a local temple is something we highly recommend. During the ceremony, which is held as the sun is rising in the sky, the monk gently pours holy water over the guests while chanting ancient mantras to cleanse the spirit… truly memorable! Additionally, for those looking to dig a little deeper into the spiritual element of Thailand’s culture and beliefs, our ‘Phang nga Temple Tour’ is perfect for that as it includes visiting three of the most important and inspiring Buddhist temples that the area has to offer.
For the community…
We’ve said it before and we will say it again, at The Sarojin we are extremely lucky to be surrounded by incredible nature, wildlife and an outstanding community – in fact one of the reasons we chose Khao Lak as the location of our resort – and so making sure we help our guests get to experience it is a must for us. An experience we offer that’s close to our hearts is the Elephant Mahout Experience, taking place at Phang Nga Elephant Park, a small and unique family-run eco-park, which dedicates its efforts to providing the highest quality of care to its rescued herd of Asian elephants. The experience includes a morning of learning and fun at the sanctuary, where guests are taught how to hand-feed, bathe and tend to the majestic giants. Not only is the experience educational, but the funds raised from such excursions are key to the park’s existence and in turn provide the resources needed for vital programmes to promote sustainability and animal welfare in the community.
Other great ways to learn more about our precious community, and perhaps get some handy health, life and/ or spiritual tips to take back home, are our ‘Glimpse of Local Life’ experiences, which are immersive experiences showcasing local life in the area. Or for a session of rejuvenating exercise whilst discovering the area, our guests get complimentary use of mountain bikes, sailing catamarans, sailboats, sea kayaks and windsurfing boards… and to explore off you go!
Additionally, The Sarojin Community Care Fund (which was initially set up to rebuild the communities surrounding our resort following the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami) contributes to a number of worthy local projects in Khao Lak. From providing medical provision for prosthetic limbs and supporting local orphanages with childcare, to building school classrooms and roads and covering the cost of a full-time veterinary surgeon to care for the local wildlife, there’s such a huge variety of ways our fund gives back to those closest to us. We encourage our guests to donate to the fund during their stay if they can, with 100% of the money raised distributed to local community projects.
For the environment…
And last, but certainly not least, our regular ‘Sarojin Cares’ volunteer days make a great itinerary addition on a trip focused on self-care and wellness (and are complimentary for guests to join). For example, a regular excursion in the initiative aimed to help rebuild the natural environment in Khao Lak is a trip to the Mangrove Forest Planting Project in Baan Nam Kem set up by local fishermen following the 2004 tsunami. Here, guests can help plant new trees and restore the mangrove ecosystem which was damaged by the disaster – a truly rewarding experience
