Phang Nga province, where The Sarojin is based, is blessed with a variety of stunning natural landscapes and awe-inspiring sights. To ensure you’re not missing any of the must-sees from your Thailand itinerary, we want to tell you a little bit more about the Hollywood famous province we call home…
Embark on a James Bond adventure in Phang Nga Bay
Within Phang Nga province is Phang Nga Bay, which covers an area of 400 square kilometres and is home to over forty small islands and islets – so there’s plenty to explore here!
Its picturesque limestone karsts, emerging vertically out of the emerald-green water, are perhaps the most distinctive feature of the bay, and James Bond fans may already recognise these famous rock formations from The Man with the Golden Gun. Scenes from the Hollywood blockbuster were shot on Koh Tapu Island back in 1974, which has aptly been known as the James Bond Island ever since.
A unique way to experience the many wonders Phang Nga Bay has to offer is to canoe through its hidden lagoons and caves, which are exposed at low tide. The coral reefs among its islands are also home to a wide variety of marine life and corals, ideal for snorkelling enthusiasts, whilst brilliantly coloured fish can be fed by hand from the powder white beaches of the Koh Kai Islands.
Day trips to the bay can be organised with our team at The Sarojin, including stops at the famous James Bond island and a local Monkey Cave Temple. Prices start from THB 6,100 per person for a “just for 2” experience, including lunch on a longtail boat.
Our team can also accommodate private excursions on board our beautiful yacht charter Lady Sarojin, which departs from Yacht Haven Marina in Phang Nga Bay. Guests are transferred from The Sarojin to the bay by private car and the excursion includes a gourmet lunch on board. Prices start from THB 8,500 per person for a group of minimum six people.
Rock climbing over the floating village of Koh Panyee Island
Phang Nga Bay is also home to the village of Koh Panyee Island, otherwise known as ‘the floating village’, which is said to have been founded by three families that travelled to Thailand from Indonesia over 200 years ago. The story goes that the three families separated and made a vow to each other that if one of them found a place with an abundance of fish where everyone could live, they would signal the others by raising a flag on the highest mountain possible for the others to see. Fun fact? This is how the island was named Koh Panyee, which means ‘the island of the flag’.
As almost all of the limestone cliffs that form this island are vertical the village is primarily built on stilts over the water, with a giant rock looming over the village that’s calling out to be scaled! It really doesn´t get any better for adventurous travellers looking to get a unique view over the village below, as well as Phang Nga Bay! Top tip? Start working on that body strength to experience some truly unforgettable views from the heights.
Guests can book our Phang Nga Bay Rock Climbing “just for 2” excursion, which departs from Phang Nga Bay on a longtail boat. Guests are transferred to the bay from The Sarojin by private car and the excursion includes two climbs (morning and afternoon) as well as a local village tour to understand how the residents of this unique village live and work, before enjoying lunch at a traditional Thai restaurant that hovers over the bay. Prices start from THB 8,300 per person.
